January 25-27, 2013 Peoria, AZ
The season opener for the 2013 season of WORCS at Canyon MX in Peoria, AZ would have been better suited for boat racing rather than Off-Road after a dry practice on Friday, the sky opened up on Friday afternoon at 4:30 dumping heavy rain onto the track for nearly 36 hours straight. Track conditions were challenging with huge water crossings and mud that would cut visibility to nothing.
Kyler Thau, 224y of Vina, CA would make the 1,800 mile round trip voyage to have his first race on his new Stage 5 Elka Suspension equipped Yamaha Raptor 250 in the worst conditions he had seen to date since racing. With 17 entries into the Production 250 class, only 10 riders would finish in this class where one lap took 11+ minutes to trudge thru the water and mud. Kyler would have a decent finish, taking a 5th place finish and the 3rd fastest lap time. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning classes, the Production 250 Sport and 12-15 Production Sport, would unfortunately drowned any chance of finishing as too much water would stop the machine from getting restarted resulting in 2 DNF’s in both classes. Saturday afternoon’s 8-15 Sport class was also cancelled due to track conditions.
With only a two week break before round two in Primm, Nevada, Kyler is looking forward to getting back on the seat for some hopefully drier and more favorable racing conditions at Buffalo Bills Raceway. Buffalo Bills is known for being fast and flat which should allow for his CT Racing motor to go fast and his Maxxis tires to get hooked up. He’s ready to get back out there and mix it up with one of the largest WORCS ATV classes in the series.
Kyler Thau would like to thank his 2013 sponsors: Elka Suspension, Answer Racing, CT Racing, Go Pro, Fast Flexx Bars, X Brand Goggles, ODI Grips, Triumph Motorsports, BRM Off Road, Gifted Productions, Slick Off Road Wash, Hot Coats and Twin Air.
