Tempe, AZ (12/14/2015) -Pro Motorsport’s brothers Matthew and Jeff Hancock teamed up to take the 2016 Pro Quad Championship in the Best in the Desert Series. The brothers finished the season with a second place finish at the Henderson 250, in Henderson, NV, to officially wrap up the championship.
After going undefeated all season long, the Hancock’s finished second place at the Henderson 250, but more importantly, they became the Pro class champions. Although they were looking for a win at the final round, Matthew Hancock stayed positive, saying, “we came into the race pretty excited, trying to sweep the series, but we ended up getting second. We still won the war, all we had to do was start this race to win the pro championship.”
The challenging course of the Henderson 250 combined with Mother Nature really pushed the racers to their limits. The day started out with temperatures around 23 degrees. Jeff Hancock started the race with the first lap, traded the quad off to his brother, Matthew, for the second lap, and then wrapped up the race by riding the third and final lap. “It was pretty cold out. I thought it was going to be all right but about two or three miles in my hands started going numb and that was definitely a factor,” stated Jeff Hancock.
Jeff handed off the Honda to Matthew for the second lap, and they were about a minute off the leader. Matthew wasn’t prepared for the unusual cold weather, which kept him charging at his normal race speed. “This year we went through all the races with absolutely no problems and that was huge. Our Maxxis tires and Tire Blocks did not have one flat all year, which is really impressive. It was pretty exciting to get that championship with my brother,” said Matt.
“Whenever Matt and I decided to race Parker we just wanted to do the first race to see how it went, and it went good for us so we decided to keep going. I couldn’t ask for a better year. Even though we did not get the win at the last round, there is nothing better than winning the championship with my little brother and having the family support. For me, coming out of retirement a couple years ago I never thought this would happen again. The new Elka suspension was amazing and the bike was just flawless,” stated Jeff.
The Hancock brothers plan to return to the Best in the Desert series in 2016 to defend their championship.
