McKenzie, TN (3/20/2018) – Nine6Nine Motorsports riders Logan Stanfield, Alan Myers, and Cole Wuellenweber all scored victories at the season opener for the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship. The team was competing in the Daytona ATV SX at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
A new course and a new format that paid points in the amateur classes welcomed the team to Daytona for the race held during Bike Week. The course featured several big air jumps, a whooped out rhythm section, as well as a tight corkscrew hairpin start turn that challenged everyone. The event featured a unique single-moto format.
Team owner Travis Moore pushed his riders all weekend. Though he was happy with the results, he knows that in racing you’re only as good as your next finish, so he remains ready to put in the hard work that wins championships.
“We can’t complain coming out with three overall wins,” said Moore. “My riders aren’t allowed to use the word ‘can’t’ or it means 500 pushups. So I try to communicate with them every lap to keep them motivated. We were successful, we’re healthy and we’re ready to come into round two. I’m happy, but I’m never satisfied. We’ll keep going for the top and we’ll step it up every week.”
Myers won the Pro Sport race and finished fourth in Pro-Am. Myers has been with Moore for four years and has been on the team since its inception in 2015. He was happy to get his first win in the Daytona event since the first edition of the race in 2015.
“I had my holeshots pretty dialed in and the Maxxis Tires really hooked up,” said Myers. “I just rode my own races in both the heat and the main. I liked the track a lot. It got really rough at the end, but it was a lot of fun. That was a pretty neat win for me because I haven’t won in Daytona since the first year. I was pretty pumped about that.”
Stanfield recovered from a crash in the 450A heat to win the main. Stanfield, who is in his third year with the team, broke his back last year in a hard crash. He proved his injury was fully healed with an impressive run in the main. After starting fourth, he took second in the rhythm section on the first lap and took the lead for good soon after.
“The leader blew his engine and I kept my pace going to the finish,” said Stanfield. “It was amazing. That whole last lap I had a smile on my face. The whole Walsh setup is awesome with the Maxxis Tires, Barker’s Exhaust and Goldspeed Wheels. It’s pretty cool that we all got wins this weekend. In the offseason we push each other pretty hard. It’s always a battle between us, which is really nice.”
Wuellenweber won the Open C main to clinch his first National victory in his first year with the team and riding a Suzuki for the first time in his career. In the Open C event, he took the holeshot and led every lap. He also finished fifth in College 16-24.
“I was so stoked to get that win in Open C,” said Wuellenweber. “Travis helped me prep my gate and the Maxxis Tires really hooked up at the start. I went flying into that first turn and pulled away at the start. From there, I just ran my own race. It was awesome to finally win a national event.”
Nine6Nine Motorsports will return to action when the ATV Motocross National Championship heads to South of the Border in Hamer, SC. That race is scheduled for March 24-25.
