With the dream of winning a championship this season in the Mtn. Dew ATV National Championship! We decided to race in the Schoolboy Sr. and the Youth All Star classes. Being my first year in both classes and stepping up from a 90 and 150 I knew it was not going to be easy. My team consists of my brother Jimmy Sims and former Pro Champion Jeremiah Jones. We headed to Florida in January to train until the 1st race in March. I felt I was in the best physical shape and had a bike that could compete for the wins. I came out great at Daytona winning my 1st heat race of the season. I made a mental mistake in moto 2 and took a 3rd overall. We went back to Florida to train until our opening round in Georgia. I could not have been more pleased with my results 2nd in both classes. Round 2 took us to Underground MX in Texas where we struggled. Round 3 took us to Muddy Creek in Tennessee, where it did not take my team long to discover we had a motor issue. I was getting out pulled everywhere. I was able to salvage a 4th and 7th place finish. While my team did a lot of R & D we headed to round 4 at High Point in Pennsylvania where I took a 2nd and 6th place finish. I was in the top five in points in both my classes but knew I was capable of fighting for the wins. We decided to send a motor to Dan Lamey at DASA Racing in California. Round 5 took us to Ironman in Indiana. We had a lot of rain during both of my moto’s and I made some mental mistakes with my goggles we finished 4th and 6th for the weekend. Mr. Lamey was not finished with my race motor in time to go to Round 6 at Sunset Ridge in Illinois but he sent me a motor that would help. I felt great with my first motor and took home a 3rd in both classes. I was very excited to get my built motor and knew it would be lightning fast after riding the first one. I received my DASA Motor at the hotel the day before Round 7 at Spring Creek in Minnesota. Friday’s practice went great and we knew we had the motor to beat now it was up to me to ride like my team knew I could. I pulled 3 out of 4 holeshots and won 3 of my moto’s. Taking the 1st place in school Boy Sr. I cannot tell you how great it felt for my entire team. Round 8 took us to Unadilla in New York where I took a 1st and 3rd place finishes. Round 9 was at Red Bud in Michigan where we continued our winning streak with 3 in a roll 1st in Schoolboy and a 9th in Youth All Stars after being taken out of contention. We left Michigan going back to Kentucky to train under the high heat conditions at Loretta Lynn’s. I have never really been in contiguous to win at Loretta Lynn’s but I knew this year would be my best chance. I was in the best physical and mental condition I have ever been in and knew I had the bike and team to help me accomplish this goal.
Jeremiah told me DASA would be coming to Loretta’s. Pressure is in understatement! I wanted to win Loretta Lynn’s Championship but I also wanted to represent my motor builder with 4 consecutive podiums. My teams really helped me settled down and do what I love to do. I am happy to report this year we won the Loretta Lynn’s Championship and the Mt. Dew ATV National Championship in the Schoolboy Sr. Class. In the Youth All-Star class we ended the season 4th in points. I could not have done it without all the help from Maxxis Tires, Elka Suspension, SSI Decals, Goldspeed Wheels, Yoshimura, Walsh Race Craft, Rheem, Gemaire, Hinson, Ryno power, Fly Racing, Lonestar Racing, WPS, DP brakes, DASA Racing, FourWerx Carbon, JPMX Motorsports, Maxima Oil, FSI, Jeremiah Jones, Harold Goodman, My Brother, Mom and Dad.
