John Mitchell won the IOPD British Quad-X Championship in style with a double win at the final round this weekend. The last two rounds were held on Saturday and Sunday at the Armthorpe Moto Park in Doncaster . There were good results also for other ATV World Yamaha riders.
John Mitchell Crowned Champion
Saturday was a difficult day for John as he had a broken battery lead and he stalled in a corner in race one. He then had to get off and remove his seat to repair the lead and start it up again but still incredibly fought back to ninth . This gave the advantage to his rival, Suzuki’s Ricky Tordoff. The team worked rapidly to get John’s quad ready for race two and John repaid their hard work with an outstanding ride to finish in first place. He was now one point behind Tordoff and knew that the championship was wide open.
Sunday arrived and with it came the final round of the British Quad-X Championship. John Mitchell was ready for the challenge and put in an awesome performance on his ATV World Yamaha YFZ450 to win the first of the days two races. With the championship in his sights John commanded the second race and took another first place. With the three wins out of four over the weekend, John had done enough to win the British Quad-X Championship.
John said “I have now won every championship I entered this year and I can’t tell you how much it means to me to win the treble. I’ve trained hard both physically and mentally this season. I knew it would be demanding on both me and my ATV World Yamaha YFZ450 but I can’t fault its overall performance this season. The ATV World Yamaha team have been superb in development, testing and track side maintenance on my quad. Thanks to everybody involved, the team, race organisers and supporters, who have helped make all of this possible. See you again in 2008.”
Paul Holmes Finishes Fourth in IOPD British Quad-X Championship
Paul started well on Saturday having taken first place in qualifying he then had a superb first race and finished in third place. Unfortunately Paul then suffered three DNFs as he experienced various problems but was still able to take enough points to finish fourth overall in the championship.
Dean Thompson is 2007 IOPD 200cc Standard Class Champion
Fresh from winning the 2007 Weston Beach Youth Champion, the newly crowned 2007 IOPD 200cc Standard Class Champion Dean Thompson was given the opportunity to ride in the 250cc class for this weekend. Having been dominant all season, team ATV World Yamaha wanted to challenge Dean in a much tougher race class. Dean was more than happy to rise to the challenge and on Sunday took third place overall. Dean has really shown his fantastic ability and has the right attitude for much more success. We all look forward to seeing him race in 2008.
Tom Fletcher
Having missed much of the season through injury, Tom was keen to ride in the final two rounds. On Saturday he took fifth, sixth and fourth in the Expert class and he finished third overall on Sunday. Tom will now use the winter break to train hard and be ready for 2008.
