The final round of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship took Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch by storm this past weekend bringing the fastest riders from all over the United States for a chance at taking home a prestigious ATV Dirt Days championship. Kyler Thau, 224 of Chico, CA would make the 5,000 mile round trip journey to check out the motocross track style racing and compete against other riders from around the country. A special shout out to those that helped support his journey including Coastal Racing East, IMG of Chico and other personal friends/family for their generous contributions.
Competing in 3 classes, the 90 Unlimited Jr, 90 CVT and 70 CVT at Loretta’s was both exciting and challenging! In Moto 1, Kyler qualified in both of the 90 classes, putting down strong lap times and taking 3rd in both motos. In the 70 CVT class, the cylinder issue would again hinder the performance of the 70 and it was done for the weekend after mechanical issues experienced in moto 1. For the overall on Sunday, Kyler would secure a 5th in the 90 CVT and a 6th in the 90 Unlimited Jr. He rode smart in both races, knowing that he has the final round of WORCS coming up next month in which points will be needed in 2 of his 3 classes for a this season. With the track conditions at Loretta’s being rough, his Fast Flexx handlebars and Elka Stage 5 shocks definitely helped to take some of the jolt out of the choppy track. It was also great to see support from Pro riders such as John Natalie (who took the Loretta’s Pro ATV Dirt Days title) greeting the youth riders on the line with positive words and a high five and even preformed a goofy dance that was captured in Kyler’s on board helmet GoPro!
We are just over 4 weeks away from the final WORCS round, where Kyler Thau will hope for strong finishes in the 70 Open and 70 Production to secure championships in those classes. He is already thinking about the 2013 season and what classes he will consider. In 2013, there is discussion of adding a youth SxS class at the WORCS planned merge “super events” where ATV’s, motorcycles and SxS’s will race together combined with other great weekend activities like concerts, stunt shows and fun youth games. Kyler is really hoping this youth class will start up in 2013 as he would love to race SxS’s competitively.
