With the 2017 GNCC series winding down, the excitement was only winding up at round 5 of the UTV series. Powerline Park GNCC always offers a wide array of terrain for the racers ranging from fast rough sections through the powerline to the slick muddy hill climbs. This was just what the Yokley Racing/ Factory Polaris team was looking forward to while getting ready hit the track.
“The race started off really good for the team going into the woods in 2nd place after the holeshot. Everything was going just like it was supposed to until I made a couple of bad line choices which dropped me back to 4th place”, said Yokley. After passing up the quickest line coming out of a muddy creek section, the team fell back to 4th, but throughout the remainder of the lap William was able to make his was back to 2nd physically which would end up being 4th overall by adjusted time.
The rest of the race was very exciting for the Factory Polaris team as they battled non-stop with Hunter Miller for the next 3 laps or so and then battling with Points leader, Cody Miller. Yokley was still physically in 2 going into the last lap until he made a line choice to go around the outside of a corner to maintain good speed until he realized there was a small dip in the course which caused him to slow down and get passed by Miller. “I wasn’t really concerned with getting passed because I thought the whole time that it was Walker Fowler”, said Yokley, which would have beat him on adjusted time only to find out after the race that it was Miller and not Fowler. From the report given by Yokley and several others in the XC1 UTV class, it sounds like the competition is getting to an all-time high which will make for a very interesting round 6 in 3 weeks at the well-known Iron Man GNCC for the last race of the season. At the end of a very demanding day, the Yokley Racing/ Factory Polaris team was happy to take home a 5th place finish.
