The Fines Double Racing Team has successfully defended its 2009 SCORE championship run with a victory in class 26 (Pro Utility ATV) at the 41st Annual SCORE Baja 500.
“We felt we were prepared for anything, that is until we lost our pit captain, Alex Waters, to a prior injury,” said Rutherford. Waters had to be taken to a San Felipe hospital during the team’s week of pre-running. An injury he received, while riding his ATV in Utah the week before, turned into a serious infection shortly after he arrived in Mexico. The guys kept running their sections, but with frequent calls to the San Felipe hospital. Waters was never far from their minds. Unfortunately, Waters would not be able to leave the hospital before race day, due to complex surgery and high doses of antibiotics. After some changes to the pit strategy, the Fines Double Team was once again ready to race.
The Fines Double Race Team would like to thank its sponsors that made this win possible: Arctic Cat, Elka Suspension, Green Ball Tires, Fluidyne Radiators, Klim, Rox Risers, Speedwerx, RTT Stabilizers, Vision X Off Road Lights, Planetmoto.com, Douglas Wheels, Motion Pro and Spider Grips.
Look for the Arctic Cat and Fines Double Racing Team at the BITD Vegas to Reno “The Long Way” Race in August, and then again at the Baja 1000 in November, where the team intends to nail down the first ever SCORE Utilty Class Championship.
