Round four of the WORCS Racing Series took Breast Assured Racing to Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah. Upon arrival you can’t help but notice the great views this place has to offer. Terrain was a mix of silt sand, hard pack and random patches of sandstone throughout the sand dunes. WORCS gave the option of running a paddle tire to the racers but our team decided to stick with the DWT XCR tires stuffed with Tire Blocks due to the hard pack and sandstone.

During Friday’s unclassified practice we had a chance to ride the full course and look for the different race lines that would develop during the weekend. Doug Roll was there to help dial in our Elka Suspension for the conditions, after a few small adjustments everyone felt ready for tomorrows racing. With the track consisting mostly of sand we knew that the whoops would get deep and prepared for them.

Racing started early on Saturday with the Production A, Open A, 50A and 12-15 Open classes. The whoops were already deep from yesterdays practice but we practice in similar conditions every week and with the Elka shocks dialed in we felt confident in attacking them at full speed. All of our riders pushed hard during the hour long race. Gregg Conroy finished 7th in Production A, Joe Shafe and Conrad Funke finished 6th and 7th in Open A, Rick Shafe was 2nd in 50 A and unfortunately Hannah Hoyos had a DNF in 12-15 Open.

Hannah’s day wasn’t over though, her and our other youth rider Isaac Taylor compete in the Sport 8-15 class later in the afternoon. This race was a good one, both riders fought back and forth over the 11 lap race. Towards the end of the race Isaac ran into a little bad luck when his chain would come off but he was able to get back in the fight and hold on to a podium spot. Hanna’s solid effort would earn her the second spot on the podium and Isaac would take the 3rd, a great effort put by both riders.

c10Sunday’s race classes include 30A, 40A, 250 Production, 90 Production and the Pro- Am. Conrad’s quad began to develop shifting issues during the race on Saturday so he opted out of racing on Sunday to prevent any more damage to the Honda 450. The 40A class has become quite competitive with three of our riders in it. Bobby Taylor is the series point leader followed by Joe Shafe in 2nd and Gregg Conroy in 5th. Bobby once again got off to a great start with his Racer Edge powered TRX450 and never looked back finishing on the top of the podium and 1st overall for the race. Joe rode a solid race but wasn’t able to hunt Bobby down and finished 2nd. Gregg Conroy was also running a great race but was tossed off his quad in a sandstone section when a rock got hung up in his front wheel. Gregg suffered a separated shoulder but still finished the race in 4th. Rick Shafe would finish 4th in the 30 A class. The last two races of the day for our team were Production 250 and 90 Production. Isaac pushed hard in a class full of great riders to a 6th place finish in Prod 250 and after a fierce battle in 90 Prod Hannah took the top spot on the podium!
