Atascadero, CA (4/10/2018) – CST’s Beau Baron put in all of the hours this weekend, running both the ATV and UTV classes in the UTV World Championship in Laughlin, NV before heading the 29 Palms, CA to finish fourth in Pro2 motorcycle and win the ATV race during the Big6 event. Teammate Mitch Anderson was battling for the lead in the Big6 motorcycle race, but mechanical problems took him out of contention.

In the UTV World Championship, Baron raced with Josh Row in the ATV class. After taking the lead, Baron hopped on the quad, but the chain sprocket fell out in a sand wash. Baron quickly found the part, put the chain back on and held it together with his boot for nearly a lap until he could pit for repairs. Row brought it home fourth.

“Josh got the lead, I took off and we were quite a ways out front,” said Baron. “I was going down this sand wash and the countershaft sprocket bolt fell out and I coasted off the track. I found the sprocket, ran back to the quad, and put the chain back on. I got going and held my foot on the shifter to keep the chain on. I had to run half the course that way.”

In the UTV race, Baron moved his way through the field in the dust, making it up to second on lap two. Setting his sights on the leader, Baron put the spurs to his machine and was catching up when a belt issue slowed his charge. He made repairs and finished the race.

“It was sketchy in the dust, I blew off the track a couple of times and almost crashed,” said Baron. “I made it up second on the second lap, but the leader was way ahead. So I was hauling ass and got my belt so hot it blew just before the last lap. I changed my belt and cruised in for the finish on the final lap.”

Baron then loaded up, and headed 154 miles way to the Big6 Pro2 motorcycle race at 29 Palms Motorsports. He started the race with zero track time and finished fourth, holding onto the points lead.

“I got there just in time to get on my gear on get on my dirt bike,” said Baron. “I cruised around the back of the pack for a lap or two and I got up to fourth place. I didn’t want to risk any more passes, so I settled in. I was completely exhausted before the race.”

The following day, Baron raced in the Big6 ATV event. Baron beat out more than 20 other competitors to score the victory. He was happy for the redemption after the difficult weekend.

“There were like 23 guys in the ATV race, which is nice,” said Baron. “I needed that win to cheer me up for the weekend.”

Baron and Anderson will next compete when the WORCS Series heads to Sand Hollow State Park in Utah April 27-29.
