Lake Havasu City, AZ – What an awesome weekend I had racing rounds 4 & 5 at WORCS! We arrived at the track early Saturday morning and got right down to business. I headed to tech and then to the driver’s meeting. My class was scheduled to race in the afternoon. After some last minute prep on the car, I was ready to race.
We lined up for round 4 in the usual format with the Women’s 1000 class up front, the 900 class in the 2nd row, and my class in row 3. As the other two classes took off, I got ready. The green flag dropped, and we were off. There was a very short distance from the start line to the first turn, and we were all driving hard and fast to get there first. The first turn was a sharp 90 degree turn. We were all bunched up and as we rounded the corner, I fell in to the 4th place position. I knew I had a long race ahead of me, so I settled in and went to work. As we drove lap after lap on the rough and windy course, some of the people in my class had some unfortunate luck and many cars broke or rolled along the way. By lap 3, I had moved up to 3rd place, and then on lap 4, I moved into the 2nd place position. I drove as fast as I could trying to catch the 1st place finisher, but I couldn’t get to him before he reached the checkers. I was happy to have pulled off a podium finish in 2nd place!
The next morning, I woke up ready to race again. My class was scheduled to race round 5 in the afternoon, and I knew it was going to be another hot and rough race. I had raced the course already, so I knew what to be prepared for. I lined up in a different spot than the day before because I thought I could get a better start and not get tangled up in traffic. As the green flag dropped, I floored it. As we rounded the first sharp turn, we went up and over a table top jump, and I fell in to the 2nd place position. The track then made a sweeping right hand turn and the car in front of me took the outside line. I cut to the inside and was able to make the pass quickly. I took off leading the pack behind me. I knew I had to drive smart and consistent. With each lap, I was able to increase my lead by a few seconds. There were many cars from all of the classes that broke along the way and I had to be careful around every turn not to get tied up with them. As the 45 minute race came to an end, I crossed the finish line first! I was so happy to finish the race in 1st place!
My team and I are prepping the car and get ready to head to Las Vegas, NV this weekend where I will be racing WORCS round 6. I am looking forward to it!
