Round 5 of the 2008 State Motocross Championship was held at the BSA Motorcycle Club on Sunday, 24th August.
BSA is re-known for being an extremely fast track and round 5 of the championship was going to be no different with the pro class lap records being rewritten. The first moto saw Brenton debut the second of the teams 08 Honda TRX 450ER and line up against some of Australia’s fasted MX Quad riders, Ryan Lancaster (Yamaha Factory Rider), Anthony Yewers (Honda Australia), Chad McKay (Savage Suzuki) and Josh Higson (Suzuki Australia). From the start team mates Brenton and Yewers were fighting for holeshot honours but Brenton prevailed and was off to a good start with Yewers chasing for second, this left the rest of the field fighting it out for the minor placings.
Race 2 and Brenton was not going to get it all his own way, this time it was McKay who got the holeshot with Higson in second with Brenton chasing. It didn’t take Brenton long to pass Higson and with McKay now firmly in his sights the chase was on. Just past the pitboard area Brenton made his move on McKay, he knew that the power of the Honda would allow him to pass McKay on the straight and from that point Brenton never looked back dialing in the fastest lap time of the day a 1.34.752. Only Factory KTM rider Michael Addison in the Pro Open class just pipped him out of top honours with a 1.32.177.
Race 3 and it was on again between Brenton and McKay, this time it was Brenton with the holeshot and McKay very close behind but there was no room for error. Brenton delivered as he had done all day, he was out to claim yet another 8 lap race victory and lead from start to finish with a flawless race. Brenton attributes this to the bike setup, the Elka Factory Suspension worked perfectly all day on what was an extremely fast pace track.
As we head to Coastal for the final round of the 2008 championship Brenton has a 41 point lead over Yewers, 61 point lead over McKay, 62 points over Higson and a 68 point lead over Lancaster.
Cheers and thank you very much for your support!
