Desert Toyz Race Team is proud to be the first team in history to win both days at the Best In The Desert Blue Water Desert Challenge. The “other brother” Can-Am Team of Cory and Scott Sappington took the Overall and the Pro Production Turbo class win.
On day one Scott drove with his navigator Jason Flanders. They started 20th off the line and charged past ten UTVs on their first lap. They then passed another four competitors in the final 2 laps. Although they did not finish in first physical place their time proved that they were the fastest UTV for the day. They finished day one 17 seconds faster than the first UTV off the line, which had the advantage of clean air the whole race! After the race Scott said “I stuck to my plan, race my own race. I was not going to let my lap times or my position dictate how hard I would drive. My navigator gave me all the right information to allow me to race through the dust.”
On day two Cory Sappington and his navigator Denise Nelson knew what they had to do. Scott gave Cory a great advantage by finishing fastest on day one. Cory and Denise started in the pole position, lined up next to one of the fastest UTV’s in Best In The Desert. Cory took the hole shot and was never challenged by any competitor for all three laps! By the second lap Cory and Denise were 2 minutes and 40 seconds ahead of the car they challenged off the line. Their lead only increased on lap three. At the finish Cory and Denise were over 3 minutes ahead of all other UTV’s!
On the podium Cory said “My race plan was to get the hole shot, jump into the express lane and check out!!” Cory also said “When you put myself, Scott, Jason, Denise, the Can-Am Turbo, CST Lobo tires, Elka Shocks, Tiger Lights, PCI Radios, Triple X Seats, Modquad, Dirt Skins and Shampa you get a winning combination and we just proved that!!”
Cory and Scott also proved that the all stock Can-Am Turbo engine and drivetrain is faster than even the best aftermarket built competitor’s engines! We are proud to represent Can-Am along with all of our other sponsors! Thank you!
