Oasis Mx would host the season opener for SORRA, the Sierra Off Road Riders Association for the start of the 2013 season. 96 riders would come to the line for the first event looking for some great racing with the growing SORRA organization. Kyler Thau, 224 of Chico, CA would have a fun weekend getting some seat time on his machines between WORCS rounds and mixing it up with some of the great families and racers of Northern California and Nevada.
Contesting in the 12 and under modified, Youth under 16 and Amateur MX classes, the SORRA events hosted the cross country classes on Saturday and the motocross classes on Sunday. Saturday’s 12 and under modified race would Kyler was able to take a first and the checkered after a 20 minute moto. In the Youth under 16 class, Kyler secured a 4th place finish after being passed on the last lap in the timing shoot by a fellow rider after a 45 minute moto. Sunday’s race would be a moto 1/moto 2 format for the motocross portion of the event. After some minor suspension adjustments on his Elka equipped Stage 5 Raptor 250, he was able to ride hard and get in some strong lap times. In the 12 and under modified, Kyler went 1-1 to take the win on his 70cc Apex. The amateur class would have no age or cc restrictions, but Kyler was able to have a nice showing going 3-4 and taking 4th overall in that class; even racing against quads that were 200cc’s bigger than his machine!
The next round for SORRA is scheduled for Chappie Mx in Shasta Lake, CA on March 29-31st for a round of cross country racing action! We would like to give a special shout out to the volunteers and organizers of the SORRA events. These events are operated efficiently and are well organized by a group of riders that share a common love for racing.
