Race report from GNCC Mountaineer Run, Masontown Wv – UTV Race
For Team Trials/Frank Olander
Conditions were extremely dry and dusty for the most part at the masontown GNCC on may 24th.
We started on the second row with our points standings from last race.
We had a good start but conditions got so dusty into the second turn we had to let off ,and hope for better vision.
Once we got a clear line of sight And got a feel for the extremely rocky terrain that masontown is known for, we were able to start laying down some pretty good lap times.
The only slick section to be found was on a hill in the woods.
This hill ended the race for many cars. Almost everyone who tried ,could not make it up the hill.
This cost us over 2 minutes in one of our laps and we lost several places because of it.
The GNCC officials then directed everyone around the hill for the remainder of the race.
But then a bit of bad luck came upon us when we hit a stump that was burried in a rutted section. This bent our front wheel center and cracked our rear wheel center to the point that we had thought the race was over. The Elka stage 5 shocks did exactly what they were supposed to.They were very predictable the entire race.
We raced for the remaining 3 final laps with the distorted wheels to a 8th place xc1 finish.
And 11 th overall!
Over have the entries did not finish this brutal race.
We would not have finished without our Elka shocks to absorb the massive hits from the rough terrain of The mountaineer run GNCC national at Masontown West Virginia.
We are currently ranked 7th xc1
