New Salem, IN (June 15, 2020) Polaris RZR/Yokley Racing Driver, John Barnes moved into the points lead and finished second this past Saturday.
It was another blistering hot and dusty day. Barnes luck was better at drawing row position from a hat at the drivers meeting just before the start. He drew a row 1 start. However, as the green flag dropped, Barnes was off to a last place start. The team has not been able to get the RZR to fire from dead engine and rolling quickly like they have in years past. It has made it more challenging and rewarding.
Barnes moved into 3rd place at the end of lap 1 and 2nd place at the end of lap 2. He was 1 minute 15 seconds off the leader as he came through the scoring tent heading into lap 3. In the coming laps, Barnes cut the lead to 27 seconds as he pulled through the scoring with 2 laps to go. That lap proved to be the hardest of the day. Barnes added, “I was pushing my Pro XP through the woods. There was a narrow turn then an uphill with a
lapper just ahead. I clipped a tree in that section sending my RZR on its side. We started to unlock our harnesses when, lo and behold, the lapped driver in front of us had gotten out of his RZR and came over to help us back over.” Barnes and his team are very grateful to those men that came to the rescue. It would have taken much more time for Barnes and co-pilot, Kyle Dezarn to get out and flip it over and then strap back in.
After getting moving again without being passed, Barnes settled for 2nd place for the day after losing considerable time with the rollover. However, the team would smile as they went to the checkered flag in the points lead.
