April 27-28, 2013 Honey Lake Mx, Milford, CA
The Sierra Off-Road Riders Association (SORRA) would take their 3rd round of the 2013 season to the high desert of California at Honey Lake Mx in Milford, CA for a weekend of off-road racing on Saturday and moto format racing on Sunday.
The temperatures were nice, although a bit on the warm side so hydration was key. SORRA riders would face challenging steep rock sections, off camber jumps and tight off road sections if you wanted to make it to see the checkered on Saturday. Sunday’s race was a fast 5 laps to the finish and in the amateur class Kyler Thau of Chico, CA was able to put on a good show for the spectators as he chased down and plucked off the 450cc riders one by one on his CT Racing build Yamaha Raptor 250. His Maxxis tires were hooking up and his Stage 5 equipped Elka Suspension looked smooth and dialed in. On Saturday, Kyler would bring home a first place finish in the 12 and Under Modified race on his Apex 90, and a second in the Youth under 16 (behind a 450cc B rider!) for the combined WORCS style race combining both disciplines of off-road and motocross racing. On Sunday, Kyler would go 1:1 in the 12 and Under Modified.
The SORRA Series is a “rider club” which is doing its best to build the series by showing organization and racing at recognized venues to give participants challenging terrain and a good weekend of fun. The series is in its early stages but with continued support you can expect this to be a great opportunity for off-road racing.
