Elka Rider Felipe Velez Wins at the Grand Prix Series ”ZR Alviza Night Race”
With an extreme hot day in the desert of Mexicali Mexico the heat was 120 F, making it very hard to race and that’s why Rene Montaño race promotor made the race very interesting fighting with the heat and the night time.
I had to do a quick jersey change 5 minutes before the start when my pit got me all covered in fuel with a bad dry brake, They poured water all over me to avoid me from feeling my skin burn with the high octane fuel.
We got in time for the start green flag dropped and in the start I got passed by all the local riders they had different lines so I started dead last, that was a disappointment to me so I tried to relax and ride safe in the dust and night after the first 7 miles I started to feel better, then I started to see the actual champion and points leader Javier Robles, he had an issue having his foot slammed off the quad, and when I was getting closer to him he jumps on the quad riding like a rocket and he knows the course like his backyard, we battled two laps giving the spectators a good race, Robles had an injury prerunning in the Baja 500 and broke a rib, he was in recovery for the last month so I knew I had a good chance of winning this race but it wasn’t going to be easy battling with Robles and the Night because you can’t see the course very well.
Right before the second lap I was behind Robles so I decided to make my move so I pushed the best I could and didn’t give up so I passed him by that time I was exhausted, but I was riding in front and didn’t want to give up so I needed to keep my head up and keep on going because the race finishes until the fourth lap and we were half way.
In the third lap I had some issues with the lights one of my main lights went off and the other one was giving me problems and had to stop a couple of times by the end of the third lap my helmet light went out of battery and that made me feel nervous because I could run out of lights so I had one emergency squadron to keep on racing.
When I saw the finish flag I was so proud of my work done and more because my six year old son was the one who received me at the finish line and that was my best trophy for me so when I arrived to the finish line I didn’t realize I was the first Overall of the hole race I passed the first motorcycle I was so focused on the quads I didn’t pay attention to the Pro Motorcycles.
I would like to thank my sponsors because this wouldn’t be possible without them.
