#55 Wyatt Race report Round 4
Round 4 at Sand Hollow did not allow us any practice time, so our first look at the track was during the SXS unclassified race on friday. WOW, what a beautiful place to race and what an amazing course! Sean and the WORCS crew really out did themselves on this one, it will be hard to top Sand Hollow for sure. This type of track is not usually my style of track, but it was by far one on the coolest I have ever been to. I had only driven in the sand once before, just 2 days earlier during a ELKA suspension test session. Our Polaris XP 900, Elka shocks, and Muzzy power machine worked flawlessly. The scenery was beautiful, however, the track was the most brutal and punishing tracks Worcs has ever put together. This race would surely test man and machine, 12 miles of whoops, sharp rocks, slick rocks and dunes made up the course.
For the hole shot, our Dirty Dawg clutch and Muzzy power Polaris XP 900 got us off the line great, as usual. I found myself following #1 Ryan Piplic through a section and as we got to the road crossing I was up front, this was not part of my race plan so I backed it way down when I got to the rocky section. Finishing this race was a must and to do that I needed to drive smart and consistent, and that is just what I did. My goal was to take it easy in the rocks and the really damaging sections and hammer down through the whoops and sand dunes. I am thankful for the testing we did just 2 days earlier with Elka suspension. It proved extremely beneficial and my Elka Stage 4 shocks really soaked up the whoops and dunes. GBC dirt commander tires with OMF wheels kept us rolling all the way to a 9th place finish. We will leave Sand Hollow with a solid top 5 in points.
We are really looking forward to round 5 Taft Calif and the rest of this season.
A special “Thank you” to my wife Kasey for all her support and understanding of my racing and allowing me to be who I am. This was our anniversary and she was not able to travel with me this weekend.
Thank you to all of our sponsors Elka Suspension, Muzzy, GBC, OMF, Rugged Radio, WRP, RGR Motorsports, Simpson, Holz racing, and Dirty Dawg performance.
