Canaan, IN (June 6, 2020) Polaris RZR/Yokley Racing Driver, John Barnes is getting hot this summer. The second event since the release to racing from the COVID-19 pandemic finds Barnes on the podium again. This time it was at Round 2 of the IXCR series in Caanan, IN at the King of the Mountain Venue on a completely different machine, Polaris’s new unit for 2020, the RZR Pro XP.
IXCR had a stellar turnout. Thousands of people tired of being cooped up came out in swarms to be part of off road racing whether they were racing or pitting or being a spectator. Indiana has one of the strongest populations of racing advocates in the country. The blistering 88 degree humid day did not sway anyone away. It made for a record turnout at the venue for the series.
Pro Turbo SxS racing was the last race of the day. At 5:30 PM, the hour long woods race got started. Row 1 of ten drivers including Barnes took off. The remaining 45 drivers would also be racing for a win based on time adjustment that takes off in 1 minute increments per row.
Barnes did not get the start he would have liked. He went into the woods 7th with so much dust, he couldn’t be seen. Barnes commented, “When it is really dusty like that, I’ve

found best thing to do is follow the person in front of you as close as possible and hope they know where they are going or when room permits get out of their line of dust and get into clean air.
Barnes made his way into the lead about half way through the race. A power steering overheat issue set him off pace and fell back into second. On the final lap, he was doing everything he could do to hold onto second. Barnes recollected, “I hit every line I could think of to hold the 2nd place position. My shoulders were killing me with pain from steering with partial power. About 100 yards from the finish, I took a line in the woods that I thought would block a possible pass. Unfortunately, I lost the position and fell to a respectful third at the checkered flag.

It was an awesome weekend for Barnes, successfully making it onto the podium and his kids had the opportunity to race for the first time in the Peewee ATV class over the weekend.
The team put in a tremendous amount of work testing their Pro XP getting it ready for racing. They can’t wait for the next one.
